Wall Stud Calculator
Estimate studs and plates for any framed wall.
How the wall stud calculator works
Studs = (wall length in inches ÷ spacing) + 1, plus extras for each corner or T-intersection and 2 extras per opening (king + jack). Plates = 3 × wall length (1 bottom + 2 top).
Frequently asked questions
How many studs in a 10 ft wall at 16 OC?
(120 ÷ 16) + 1 = 8.5, round up to 9 studs before extras for corners and openings.
Should I frame at 16 or 24 in OC?
16 in OC is standard for load-bearing walls. 24 in OC is code-legal in many jurisdictions and saves lumber, but reduces drywall stiffness.
