Mortar Calculator

Estimate bags of mortar for brick and block projects.

Mortar is estimated per unit laid: about 1 standard 80 lb bag of mortar mix per 30–35 bricks, or per 12–15 concrete blocks, laying 3/8 inch joints. One cubic foot of mortar sets roughly 30 bricks. Count your units, divide by that yield and add 10% for waste. Enter your wall details for bags of mortar and sand.

How does the mortar calculator work?

Mortar coverage depends on the unit. Rule of thumb: one 70 lb bag of pre-mix type S covers about 125 modular bricks or 30 standard CMU blocks.
