Mulch is sold by cubic yard (bulk) or in 2 cu ft bags. Multiply bed area by depth in feet to get cubic feet.
Formula: bags (2 ft³) = (L × W × D/12); yards = ft³ ÷ 27

How deep should mulch be in a garden bed?
2–3 inches of mulch is the sweet spot. Less than 2 in doesn't block weeds; more than 4 in can suffocate roots and prevent water from reaching the soil.
How many bags of mulch for a 10x10 bed?
A 10×10 ft bed at 3 in deep needs about 0.93 cubic yards, or roughly 13 bags of 2 cu ft mulch. Over 10 bags, buying by the cubic yard is usually cheaper.
How many bags of mulch in a yard?
13.5 bags of 2 cu ft mulch equal one cubic yard. Bulk delivery is usually cheaper above 3 yd³.
How deep should mulch be?
2–3 in for annual beds, 3–4 in around trees and shrubs. Deeper than 4 in can suffocate roots.
