Flooring Calculator for a Bedroom
Estimate boxes of flooring for any bedroom.
Bedrooms are usually simple rectangles, so 8–10% waste is enough. Engineered hardwood, LVP and laminate are all popular bedroom choices — pick a warmer species and add an underlayment with sound dampening for a quieter room.

How does the flooring calculator work?
Multiply room length × width to get square footage, add a 10% waste allowance, and divide by the box coverage printed on the manufacturer label.
What else do people ask about this calculator?
How much flooring for a 12×12 bedroom?
A 12×12 ft (144 sq ft) bedroom needs about 158 sq ft with 10% waste — 7–8 boxes at 22 sq ft per box.
Do I need underlayment under bedroom flooring?
Yes for laminate and floating LVP over any subfloor, and always over concrete for a moisture barrier. Glue-down or nail-down hardwood doesn't need underlayment.
How much waste for hardwood flooring?
10% is standard for straight installs; add 5% more for diagonal, complex patterns, or rooms with many angles.
How many square feet in a box of laminate?
Typically 20–30 ft² per box. Check the box — it's the most reliable number for your specific product.
